From Ranchi to the Runway: Jharkhand Opens New Aviation Career Pathways for Young Aspirants

Jharkhand’s youth can now pursue careers in the aviation sector without having to move to Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru for professional training. The Jharkhand Flying Institute has introduced courses in Ranchi for aspiring air hostesses, flight stewards and ground handling professionals, creating a new opportunity for students to access specialised training closer to home. The initiative is expected to make aviation education more accessible and affordable, particularly for talented students who previously had to bear the additional costs of accommodation and living expenses in metropolitan cities.
The institute has launched six-month certificate and one-year diploma courses in the three areas, allowing students to choose programmes based on their interests and career plans. Applications are currently open until July 31, with selection based on merit, a personal interview and a spoken English test, followed by document verification and a medical fitness assessment. Each batch will have only 60 seats, with reservations allocated according to the state government’s policy. The limited intake is expected to make the admission process competitive.
The certificate course is priced at ₹1,00,500, while the diploma course costs ₹1,55,500. The fee includes registration, admission, study material, uniform, examination charges, grooming kit, swimming and fitness training, reducing the need for students to pay separately for these facilities. The institute said the fee structure remains competitive compared with several private aviation training institutes in the country.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to expand aviation education in the state. The Jharkhand Flying Institute launched its Commercial Pilot Licence programme at its flight training base at Dumka Airport in May 2026 and is also working towards introducing an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course. With demand for skilled aviation professionals continuing to grow, local training options could open opportunities in airlines, airport operations and ground services for students across Jharkhand. The larger vision is to develop the state into an aviation training hub, creating more career opportunities for local youth while making professional education more accessible.
