A Gateway to Opportunity: Jharkhand and BIT Mesra Join Hands to Make Technical Education More Accessible

The Jharkhand Government’s Welfare Department and University Polytechnic, BIT Mesra have signed an MoU at Project Bhawan in Ranchi to expand access to quality technical education for economically weaker but meritorious students from the SC, ST and OBC communities. The agreement was signed by Joint Secretary Javed Anwar Idrisi on behalf of the Welfare Department and University Polytechnic Director Dr Vijaya Lakshmi on behalf of BIT Mesra.

Under the initiative, the Jharkhand Government will provide 79.40 crore over the next 10 years and bear 85 per cent of the institute’s recurring expenditure. This will enable around 850 students every year to receive free education along with hostel and mess facilities. Students with an annual family income below 2.50 lakh will be eligible for the scheme, creating a significant opportunity for talented students who may otherwise struggle to afford professional technical education.

BIT Mesra Vice-Chancellor Prof Indranil Manna said the partnership would give talented young people a stronger platform to build their careers through quality technical education. The institution is also planning to increase seats at University Polytechnic, introduce new courses and expand hostel and academic infrastructure in the coming years. The initiative aims to make quality technical education more inclusive while preparing more young people from Jharkhand for skilled professional careers.
