Against the Odds: Hopewell Hospital Team Successfully Tackled Two Critical Surgical Cases

A team of doctors at Hopewell Hospital, Karbala Chowk, successfully managed two complex surgical cases involving women in critical condition, highlighting the importance of timely intervention and specialised care. In one case, a 70-year-old woman was brought to the hospital with severe breathing difficulty. An emergency surgery performed around midnight led to the removal of a nearly 14-kilogram tumour from her abdomen, helping save her life.

The second case involved a woman who had undergone a Caesarean section in Bokaro 15 days earlier. Her abdominal swelling continued to worsen, eventually leaving her in a critical condition. After she was brought to Hopewell Hospital, doctors performed another surgery and removed nearly two litres of blood and pus from her abdomen. The infection had severely damaged her uterus, which was also treated successfully. After receiving care in the ICU, she recovered and was able to return home.

GI surgeon and hospital director Dr Shahbaz Alam and gynaecologist Dr Neha Ali said lifestyle-related factors such as obesity, hormonal imbalance, unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity are contributing to a growing number of women’s health problems involving the ovaries, uterus and abdomen. They advised women to undergo regular health check-ups, maintain a balanced diet and active lifestyle, and seek medical attention promptly if they notice unusual symptoms.
