AN INSPIRING LITERARY EVENING WITH SHOBHA THAROOR

An enriching evening celebrating literature, creativity and conversation unfolded at Hotel BNR Chanakya, Ranchi, as Empower Jharkhand hosted the engaging session “Words & Warm Brews with Shobha Tharoor.” The event was chaired by social worker and Empower Jharkhand President Aditya Vikram Jaiswal, with acclaimed Indian author and poet Shobha Tharoor gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The gathering brought together distinguished personalities from literature, art, education, industry and media, along with an enthusiastic turnout of young participants, creating an atmosphere filled with intellectual energy and cultural vibrance. The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
During an engaging literary conversation, Shobha Tharoor spoke about the deep emotional and sensory journey of language and writing. She described how words often feel musical to her while writing, becoming a source of creative inspiration. Reflecting on her literary journey, she shared that her relationship with words began in childhood and has grown stronger over the years. Responding to moderator Praneet Babbar’s question, she also shared personal experiences of growing up with her brother Shashi Tharoor, acknowledging his constant encouragement and support throughout her life. She urged parents to motivate children toward literature, writing and creative expression, noting the immense potential among Jharkhand’s youth.
The evening also witnessed the announcement of an upcoming Literature and Poetry Festival in Jharkhand, aimed at boosting tourism, employment and the state’s economy. Pooja Dadha from the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries encouraged writers and storytellers to explore commercialization, digitalization, publication and copyright awareness to strengthen the literary ecosystem. The event concluded with guests being honoured with plants and traditional angvastras, leaving the city’s literary community inspired and hopeful. Overall, the programme stood out as a meaningful and memorable step forward for Ranchi’s growing cultural and literary landscape.
