HEARTBEAT OF HOPE: RANCHI’S SADAR HOSPITAL

TO LAUNCH ADVANCED CATH LAB SOON

Ranchi’s healthcare landscape is set for a major upgrade as Sadar Hospital prepares to introduce a state of the art Cath Lab within the next 2 to 3 months. Once operational, the hospital will become the city’s second government facility after RIMS to offer advanced heart diagnostics and treatment. The Wipro GE agency has been finalised for the installation, and work is expected to begin soon after the official work order is issued. According to the Health Department, the Cath Lab is expected to be fully functional by April, with preparations already underway to begin cardiac surgeries the same month. The move will significantly ease the growing patient load at RIMS while offering relief to those who currently rely on expensive private hospitals. With the new facility, affordable and modern cardiac services will now be within reach for a larger section of the population.
Sadar Hospital has steadily expanded its infrastructure, and this addition marks another milestone in its transformation into a high tech healthcare hub. Notably, it will become the first district hospital in the East Zone to provide Cath Lab services, benefiting not only Jharkhand but also patients from neighbouring states. Once operational, the Cath Lab will enable a wide range of complex cardiac procedures including angiography, angioplasty and pacemaker implantation. Until now, these services were available at the government level only at RIMS, often leading to long waiting periods due to high patient volumes. The new facility will ensure faster diagnosis and treatment while reducing pressure on existing systems.
For BPL families and Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries, the development comes as a major relief. Civil Surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar confirmed that all cardiac procedures for BPL and Ayushman card holders will be provided completely free of cost. Other patients will also receive treatment at government approved rates, significantly lower than private hospitals, helping reduce the financial burden of heart care. Healthcare experts believe the Cath Lab will strengthen Ranchi’s public health infrastructure and restore confidence in government healthcare services, ensuring patients no longer need to travel far for quality cardiac care.
